About the Book

“From luck to leadership — this book is for anyone who wants to see hazards before they harm.”

📖 Luck into Leadership: The Energy-to-Harm Resilience (EHR) Model™ is a guide for safety professionals, team leaders, and anyone tired of relying on luck to avoid incidents.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Map the invisible energy in every task

  • Spot weak barriers before harm occurs

  • Build resilient systems that protect people and performance

Personal Mission Statement

“I help leaders see what others miss — the invisible energy behind every task, decision, and incident.”

Through the EHR Model, I aim to replace luck with foresight, strengthen systems, and protect the people who rely on them.
This mission began as a personal project — a way to give back, without compromising the job I’m proud to do or the family balance I’ve worked hard to build.
I believe leadership begins with energy awareness — mechanical, human, and emotional — and that protecting others starts with protecting ourselves.

Quick How-To Guide (Taster)

How to Use the EHR Model in 60 Seconds

  1. Spot the Energy… Gravity, electric, kinetic...

  2. Ask: What Event Could Happen? A drop, a failure, a slip, a shortcut…

  3. Who or What Could Be Exposed? Is there a person, product, or system at risk?

  4. What’s the Worst-Case Harm? Minor? Major? Irreversible?

  5. What Barriers Are in Place? Are they physical, procedural, behavioural?

  6. How Resilient Are Those Barriers? Are they tested, trusted, or assumed?

This is just the starting point.
The full EHR 12-Block™ guides leaders to map, test, and strengthen their defences — before harm happens.

What Is the

Energy to Harm

Resilience

(EHR) Model™?

The EHR Model helps leaders see what happens before harm — when energy escapes, barriers fail, and systems drift.
It maps a predictable chain from invisible risk to visible consequences:

Energy → Event → Exposure → Harm → Barriers → Resilience

Where It’s Used:

  • Incident investigations

  • Risk assessments

  • Leadership walkarounds

  • Quality and maintenance reviews

  • Training and system design

Why It Works:
Because it makes energy, exposure, and failure visible before harm happens.

Meet the Author - Brian King

“I help leaders see what others miss — the invisible energy behind every task, decision, and incident.”

Hi, I’m Brian King — author of Luck to Leadership: Energy to Harm Resilience (EHR)Model™ and creator of the Energy-to-Harm Resilience (EHR) Model™.

I’ve spent over 15 years working across workshops, logistics yards, manufacturing lines, and global teams as a Senior Regional HSE Manager. Along the way, I noticed a pattern: the most serious incidents didn’t come from recklessness or neglect — they came from unseen energy slipping past weak or untested barriers.

That realisation started a journey — one that led me to build the EHR Model and its visual core, the EHR 12-Block™. I now use this model to map hazards, strengthen systems, and guide conversations that move beyond checklists and into real resilience.

The turning point came from two simple — but-powerful questions:

From my mentor:

“How do we help team members see hazards?”

And from my son:

“What about the person’s energy?”

Those questions gave this model — and this book — its heartbeat.

Today, I write, speak, and coach on how leaders can:

  • Make energy visible before it becomes harmful.

  • Replace luck with foresight.

  • Strengthen systems that protect both people and performance.

Because leadership isn’t about waiting for something to go wrong — it’s about seeing what could go wrong, and building better before it does.

Let’s stop relying on luck. Let’s lead with resilience.
